How do pieces move in Chinese Chess?

Kings move one step orthogonally within their palace. Advisors move one step diagonally within the palace. Elephants move two steps diagonally and cannot cross the river. Horses move in an L-shape. Chariots move any distance orthogonally. Cannons move like chariots but capture by jumping over exactly one piece. Soldiers move forward only before crossing the river, then can move sideways after.

What is the Flying General rule?

The two Kings cannot face each other on the same file with no pieces between them. If a player places the opponent's King in this position, it is check.
