Pin tumbler locks are the most common household locks. They use spring-loaded stacks of pins that must be lifted until the gap between driver and key pin aligns exactly with the cylinder's shear line.
Combination safes use a numbered dial. The correct sequence is right-past-zero, left-to-number, right-to-number. The combination is set by the manufacturer and must be dialed precisely.
Warded locks are skeleton-key locks with internal obstructions. A correct key (or pick) avoids the wards by following the open path.
Digital locks rely on memorized patterns or codes. Our Simon-says tier tests short-term memory for the sequence.
